Over coffee this morning, a trio of Winter Haven residents brought to my attention a point of contention regarding my campaign for Seat #4 on the Winter Haven City Commission. They expressed concern that the blog on the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce website suggests that I support the Hometown Democracy amendment in the second paragraph, then stipulates that I oppose it the next paragraph.

In an effort to bring clarity to this issue I can say with absolute sincerity that I do not, did not, and will not support the Hometown Democracy amendment. While I am a staunch supporter of open government and an advocate of public participation at public meetings, I am equally dedicated to the idea of the representative form of government that Americans, Floridians, and Winter Haven residents have lived and worked under for our entire lives.

I offer my sincerely apologies to anyone who heard my comments at the Chamber breakfast with the candidates, or any readers of the Chamber blog who may have been left with a less than accurate impression of my position on this important issue. If any lingering doubts remain, I urge you to visit my campaign website at: http://jamiein2009.com and e-mail me through that site if you wish. I would be equally happy to discuss any issue on your mind in print, or in person.
