I can see where that one sentence Bob quoted above from The Ledger might lead one to believe that I have concerns for future traffic gridlock. However, the problem is not attributed to CSX or the related ILC traffic. The highway is already dangerous because of mixed uses. I have, and will continue to encourage the completion of 3 lanes on 27. This is also part of the focus of the Highway 27 Safety Task Force, which I participate in.
Unfortunately, due to lack of funding, FDOT has delayed the third lane of 27 north of 540 and north of I-4. In order to have safe and efficient flow of traffic, these stretches must get completed before more traffic is added to the mix.

As I recall, I also stressed the future need for passenger rail into and through Polk County, and better Polk County roads into the Poinciana area and western terminus of Phase 3 of the proposed Central Florida Rail. The focus of the meeting was Central Florida Rail - just imagine the additional traffic on 580 into Poinciana!

Thank you "Bob" for reminding me of how I was quoted and I appreciate the opportunity to explain more fully.
It is never my intention to bash CSX, rather to work with them for the benefit of all concerned.

For the record, the above comments from "Bob" are not mine. However I would agree that Commissioner Reed seeks every opportunity to question (often with the same questions that have been answered time and time again) or depict the project in a sinister light. Though quick to remind "she represents all of Polk County" there is a significant number of Polk citizens who support the project that she has yet to "represent."

"It is a nightmare to think of the upkeep of the roads this is going to need," Reed said, pointing out that locating the logistics center in Winter Haven would create gridlock on already overused highways such as U.S. 27.

That's what Ms. Reed said according to The Ledger. She appeared along with Ms. Dockery at a forum in Poinciana where they both spoke out against the freight plan.
